Ring in 2012 on the slopes or lake

Club George Rocks in the New Year at Bear Mountain

Where will you be when the ball drops in Times Square to ring in 2012? Sing Auld Lang Syne during several happenings...

First off, celebrate the New Year with Snow Summit’s traditional Torchlight Parade on December 31 at 7 p.m. Some 250 torch-(they’re actually flares but who cares) bearing skiers and snowboarders slowly descend down Log Chute in a serpentining sea of light that can best be seen from the lake’s north shore—try the East Boat Launch and Woodland Trail parking lots.

Then it’s time to party! At Bear Mountain DJ Club George returns with his insane cage dancing from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. as part of his “End of the World” bash. Club George’s bash was voted one of the Southland’s top New Year’s parties by KABC and for good reason with go-go poles, lights, smoke, the works.

Guests enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres all night included in the $35 cover, like shrimp cocktail, baked brie, bruschetta and more. There’s also champagne toast at midnight. Call (909) 866-5766. Snow Summit, meanwhile, parties from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. in the Bullwheel Bar with DJ Desi, who really gets `em dancing. The $20 cover includes light hors d’oeuvres and party favors; get tickets at the door or call (909) 866-5766.

The lake will be rocking in 2012 at B's Backyard Bar-B-Que and in the adjacent Boathouse Lounge at water’s edge from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Dance to the sounds of Plethora at water’s edge with stunning lakeviews and great cocktails. The $10 cover includes appetizers and admission is free for those who enjoy dinner in the restaurant.

All month long at B’s catch singer and guitarist Brad Riesau of Silver Moon during solo sets on Thursdays. Riesau plays solo acoustic music from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Get there early for great drink deals during B’s happy hour which goes until 6 p.m.

“I like everything so I play a wide variety of styles and artists,” Riesau said. “From the Beatles to Bing Crosby, Willie Nelson to The Ramones, and David Bowie to Amy Winehouse.” Fridays and Sundays at B’s Boathouse features “Beyond Karaoke” as performers get to play with a live band. How do you sound backed by keyboards, lead guitar and bass? Find out at B’s. Live bands are on tap weekends at the Boathouse as well.

Saturdays and Sundays see breakfast at B’s, with traditional favorites served with beautiful lake views. Catch the popular Bloody Mary bar, where guests choose from different mixes and fixin’s to create their own morning jumpstart...$3 each! B’s is at 350 Alden Rd. on the lake side of the boulevard just east of Pine Knot.Call (909) 866-5400.

Enjoy a ranch-style New Years at Wyatt's Cafe & Saloon at the Convention Center from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. There’s entertainment and children’s activities including bounce house and arts and crafts. Wyatt’s famous menu of pulled pork and hearty western portions of chicken, burgers and appetizers will be served plus complimentary champagne toast. Free admission; call (909) 585-3000.

At Diamond Lil's Saloon upstairs at the airport in Big Bear City, guests feast and then are treated to a great show. Start with choice of filet oscar or filet chicken, appetizers, salad, twice baked potato, vegetables and dessert. Then catch The Oozie Blues Show, old school musicians who play traditional blues and R&B with versatility and energy. They’ve performed with some of the biggest names in the industry. Featured is Papa J, 2010 “Entertainer of the Year” at the Los Angeles Music Awards.

Midnight champagne toast, party favors and dancing are included with dinner for just $40 per person. Diamond Lil’s is at 501 W. Valley Blvd.; (909) 585-2005.

Downstairs at the airport, Barnstorm Restaurant serves a special dinner to ring in 2012 from 4:30-9 p.m. In addition to the regular menu, guests can savor filet mignon with lobster tail, prime rib or salmon and prawns. Call (909) 585-9339.

Nottingham's features a special New Year’s dinner menu downstairs from 5-10 p.m. before the hopping party upstairs. Live music starts at 9 p.m. with Izon Eden’s classic covers, and guests who dine at the restaurant can reserve a table for the bash which includes champagne toast and party favors for $35. 21 and over only; (909) 866-4644.
