Big Bear Lake Ski and Snowboard Resort February 2010 Events at Snow Summit, Bear Mountain

BIG BEAR RESORT SHORTS

`Go Huck Yourself,’ then `Ditch’ with Analog

The party’s on Westridge under the lights after dark when Analog’s “Go Huck Yourself” returns to Snow Summit on February 6 from 6-9 p.m.

Enjoy cool riding including the Wiseman Hip Contest. Plus there’s sounds, hot beverages and freebies galore plus insane conditions after the recent snowstorms. Last year’s open winner, Big Bear resident Brady Bridgeford, also nabbed best trick honors. “Go Huck Yourself” is also on tap March 6.

Analog Ditch Days are on tap Wednesdays, Feb. 10 and 24, the perfect excuse to play hooky from work or school. There’s a music tent with prizes and killer raffle from 1-2 p.m. with Analog outwear kit, gloves, beanies, fleece items and more are given away.

Soar into the atmosphere on the “Spaceship,” Analog’s “Design Unlikely Feature” winner. The flying saucer-shaped jib designed by Austin Blair debuted last month at Bear complete with aliens, then riders took to the sky, flying over and off the hit built by Park Staff. Now you can too, at Bear!

Snow Summit and Bear Mountain are offering discounted lift tickets on February 3-4 during the first of three Uniform Days periods. Just show work identification at any ticket window and pay just $38 for an all-day lift ticket, $15 off the regular midweek price, valid at both resorts.

Upcoming Uniform Days are set for March 10-11 and April 7-8. Call (909) 866-5766 for additional details.

Iyaz, Smile Empty Soul concerts at Bear

Hear heavyweight R&B and island pop recording artist Iyaz in a free concert at Bear Mountain on Saturday, January 30.

Sponsored by Power 106, Iyaz is a British Virgin Islands artist whose hit song “Replay.” the first hit single released from his upcoming CD “My Life,” has taken the charts by storm. “Replay” opened at #96 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has since climbed to #2, and it’s already hit the top spot on the UK charts after being released less than a week.

Iyaz is a 22-year-old singer, songwriter and rapper whose reggae-infused R&B is inspired by island shorties, wireless romance, and unrequited love. His second single “Solo” is a pop-friendly tune.

Iyaz is not the only concert on tap at Bear this month. On Sat., Feb. 26 KAMP is bringing a live band still to be determined to the resort as well and weekends often see bands playing in The Boardroom.

Peeking ahead, alternative rock band Smile Empty Soul is at Bear on March 12. Formed in 1998, the grunge band’s first, self-titled debut album was certified gold in the U.S. The second album, “Vultures” has also performed well and recent gigs by the band include shows at Buffalo Bill’s Casino in Primm.

Radio stations will be on hand through February with sounds and swag on the 13,000 sq. ft. deck. Join Rock 105 at Bear on Feb. 19 and Power 106 on Feb. 21 for a great party and you might just walk away with goodies like CDs, even snowboards.

On March 12-13 it’s War of the Rails at Bear Mountain as skiers compete for $2,500 cash purse. The rail jam is under the lights and entry is $30.

Club G hosts reggae parties at Geronimo’s

Come to Da Party, Man! Each Saturday at Geronimo’s Outpost, the on-mountain retreat that’s the site of Bear Mountain Snow Splash.

Beginning at noon each Saturday, there’s music by popular DJ Club G for a reggae party in the sun. Enjoy full bar and barbecue and nonstop reggae music from Bob Marley to Sean Paul, while taking in the views of top skiers and snowboarders as they descend down Bear Peak high above the beach party on Geronimo, the Southland’s steepest, longest, highest run.

Geronimo’s Outpost is at the top of the Access Express chair which services Southern California’s largest beginner area, so stop by, weather permitting, for a little fun in the sun! Call (909) 866-5766.
