Hundreds of miles of trails can be explored in and around Big Bear, ranging from easy family day hikes to extended backpacking expeditions. Some even offer both: Big Bear Valley is home to 39 of the 2,650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail that takes backpackers from the Mexico to Canada borders, but local sections of it also make for ideal day hikes. And just a 30 minute drive away is the San Gorgonio Wilderness, with undeveloped camping and hiking along many trails that follow streams and wander through meadows. Some even climb to the top of 11,502 ft. Mt. San Gorgonio, the highest peak in Southern California! Lace your boots up and come along with us--at least online--for great walking in the Great Outdoors! And if you're going for more than just a cyber trek, be sure to have the required Adventure Pass to park at many trailheads in and around Big Bear, along with a Wilderness Permit to hike ofr the day or camp overnight in the San Gorgonio Wilderness. For either, visit the Big Bear Discovery Center or call (909) 866-3437. |
